SAN DIEGO (KFSN) -- A man is recovering after being attacked by a sea lion in San Diego on Sunday.

Fire officials say the 62-year-old was holding a fish and posing for a photo, when a sea lion lunged over the railing of a boat and latched onto his hand. The animal then pulled the man under the water.

He eventually broke free, and lifeguards brought him to shore. He was taken to the hospital with puncture wounds on his hands and feet.

Witnesses say the man was throwing fish guts overboard while they were being cleaned, and that's what attracted the hungry sea lion.
