Urban farmers in Visalia may be going back to the drawing board for the right to raise chickens and goats in their backyards.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Urban farmers in Visalia may be going back to the drawing board for the right to raise chickens and goats in their backyards. A group of residents are pushing for self-reliance. They want to farm their own eggs, and produce goat milk right in their own backyard.

Gingi Freeman said, "In the long run, of course we'd like to see all small food producing animals allowed on private property. There's absolutely no reason for those to be restricted. It really is a victimless crime."

The Visalia City Council voted down the chicken ordinance on a 3-2 vote. The council has yet to take up the goat issue.
