Dozens ride in honor of Fresno artist killed last year in bicycle accident

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A big bike ride paid tribute Saturday to the passion of a man who left his mark in Fresno.

Bicyclists capped off the Hammer Road Rally, crossing the finish line at Millerton Lake. The ride is named in honor of Edward Lund, the Fresno State arts curator who died during a ride in Sonoma County last year. He was known as "The Hammer" because of how hard he always hit the road.

The local bicycling community mourned his death with a ride in this same area last year, and this year, they're raising money for the Lund Foundation, which will go to scholarships for art students.

"It was between the memorial service and that ride that we really determined this would be a great way to honor him and be able to support the arts that he loved," Lisa Brown with the foundation said.

Among the riders were Levi Leipheimer, a former U.S. champion and an Olympic medalist. And for those who finished, food and drinks were waiting.
