SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Halloween season is in full swing for one local haunted house that had record numbers this opening weekend.
Hobb's Grove in Sanger is so scary that it welcomed nearly 1,000 visitors Saturday night, and it's only the beginning of October. It's this kind of terror that's getting this haunt national attention.
At Hobb's Grove, the screams of the undead can be heard miles away. The attractions there aren't for the faint of heart. Children under 8 are recommended not to attend the nightly haunts -- a spooky and scary setup known across the country.
"Hobb's Grove is probably more well-known than it's ever been before. This is our fifteenth year of fear," said Hobb's Grove spokesghoul Maverick Cadaverick. "This year we made the BuzzFeed top 19 haunt list. Last year we made the Forbes.com top 10 list."
A lot of people make their way from Fresno.
"I come all the way out here every year and support," said Jonathan Williams.
But that's not the farthest some people are traveling to test their bravery.
"A lot of people are coming from the Central Coast, Los Angeles, Bay Area and even out of state for Hobb's Grove," said Cadaverick.
One local economist argues this October rush is the beginning of a holiday season where consumers will be spending big.
"I think the retailers the last few years have been starting earlier and earlier with their Christmas specials or holiday season specials. [There's] really no reason why they can't back it up into October and include Halloween in there also," said Henry Nishimoto.
Like Elisabeth Knapp, who's shopping for some scary decorations.
"Well mainly on our front porch do we want to go with spider webs and spiders, or are we looking more for lights, that sort of thing and how creepy to do it. So it's fun but it's not too scary," she said.
Hobb's Grove will be open through November 1st, so if you want to meet scary ghouls and goblins, you'll have to go check it out.
