CHICAGO -- San Diego Padres shortstop Alexei Ramirez left Tuesday night's 8-7 loss to the Chicago Cubs because of cramping in his left hamstring.

Ramirez hustled into second base with an RBI double in the fifth inning and then hunched over behind the bag. A trainer came out to check on him, and Ramirez motioned to his left hamstring. After a short discussion, he walked off the field under his own power.

"He tells me right now he's feeling fine," Padres manager Andy Green said after the game. "You can imagine with the rash of hamstring injuries and quad injuries we've had, if somebody says, 'My hamstring hurts,' we're going to be very cautious. He was upset that we took him out and thought he was fine to play through it."

The Padres entered Tuesday with nine players on the disabled list, including four infielders.

Adam Rosales entered for Ramirez as a pinch runner and scored on Jon Jay's double. Rosales stayed in the game to play shortstop.
