ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Angels have exercised their contract option for 2016 on general manager Jerry Dipoto.
The Angels announced the move late in their victory over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night.
Dipoto took over the Angels in October 2011 and helped to build a roster that won the American League West last season with a major league-best 98 victories. The Angels are 296-251 since Dipoto took over.
Although owner Arte Moreno was responsible for the Angels' most expensive moves, Los Angeles has signed several high-profile free agents during Dipoto's tenure, including Albert Pujols, C.J. Wilson and Josh Hamilton. Dipoto also acquired closer Huston Street and signed AL MVP Mike Trout to a long contract extension.
The Angels' bullpen and farm system have improved during the tenure of Dipoto, a former pitcher.
