San Francisco Giantsveteran right-handerJake Peavy, who went on the 15-day disabled list on April 18 with a lower back strain, threw about 25 fastballs in a bullpen session before the Giants' 5-4 win over theLos Angeles Angelson Saturday.
Peavy reported progress, and will throw another bullpen session on Tuesday. He could start a rehab assignment after that.
Meanwhile, Giants outfielderHunter Pence, who suffered a broken left forearm after getting hit by a pitch during spring training, took fly balls on Saturday and was given the OK to take batting practice on the field Sunday.
The Giants originally set a target return date of May 1 for Pence, who was estimated to miss six to eight weeks after suffering the injury March 6. However, manager Bruce Bochy said last week that the right fielder was unlikely to return by the first of May, despite "making progress."
The Giants are currently fourth in the NL West at 11-13.
