LA Galaxy midfielder Giovani dos Santos will be out for between one and three weeks with a hamstring injury, the MLS club confirmed on Wednesday.
Dos Santos picked up the injury in last weekend's 2-1 loss to New York City FC, going down under a challenge and then limping off at half-time.
The Mexico international will miss Saturday's game against Vancouver as well as the first derby against LAFC the following weekend.
"It's somewhere in between one and three weeks. We just have to see," Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid said.
"He wants to get back out there and play. We just have to do the best that we can do in terms of getting him ready. He injured himself in the game at about the 25th minute and tried to play through it.
"It shows his character that he wanted to try to contribute, but we said at halftime that it was better to take him out.
"It rules him out for Mexico at this stage, but hopefully, we'll get him back in time for the LAFC game."
On Tuesday, sources told ESPN Deportes that Dos Santos would miss at least two weeks, which would rule him out of Mexico's friendlies against Croatia and Iceland on March 23 and 27 respectively.
Those will be the last chances he has to play with El Tri and prove he deserves a place in Mexico's World Cup team before the preliminary squad is named in May.
