The Houston Dynamo acquired midfielder Darwin Ceren in a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday.
Ceren, the 28-year-old captain of El Salvador, had provided two goals and six assists in 75 regular-season MLS games in three seasons.
The Earthquakes will get$100,000 in general allocation money and$75,000 in targeted allocation money in exchange for Ceren.
"Darwin is a young, but experience and talented player,"Dynamo coach Wilmer Cabrera said. "He will bring intensity, quality and support in all aspects to the team. As a defensive midfielder he wins every ball he chases and has a fantastic technical ability to control the ball.
"On the field he is a leader and has a lot of experience in MLS. We are very happy and excited that he is joining us, because he will help improve the team in all aspects ahead of a very tough season."
Ceren played in San Jose for a year and a half after coming to MLS with Orlando City.
