Jarrett Stidham has broken ankle bone; should be back for bowl game
Baylorquarterback Jarrett Stidham is out for the rest of the regular season after breaking a bone in the back of his right ankle, the school confirmed Wednesday.
Stidham will be in a boot for two to three weeks and then is expected to play in the team's bowl game, coach Art Briles said onRussillo and Kanell on ESPN Radio.
Stidham suffered the injury in the first half of Baylor's 45-35 win over Oklahoma Stateon Saturday. Briles said Monday that Stidham was "highly questionable" for Friday's game against TCU with an injured fibula as well as back and hand injuries.
The No. 7-ranked Bears now turn to sophomore Chris Johnson to lead their run at a third consecutive Big 12 title. Johnson played receiver for most of the season but took over for Stidham against Oklahoma State and scored three touchdowns. He'll make his first career start Friday at No. 19 TCU.
Baylor finishes its regular season on Dec. 5 againstTexasand still can win the Big 12 -- and potentially a College Football Playoff bid -- if Oklahomaloses to Oklahoma State on Saturday.
Stidham, a true freshman, has thrown for 1,265 yards and 12 touchdowns this season. He started three games after Baylor lost its No. 1 quarterback, Seth Russell, to a season-ending neck injury on Oct. 24.
