NEW YORK -- The Miami Marlins have claimed pitcher Chad Smith off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels and sent him to Triple-A New Orleans.
The Marlins made the move Friday.
Miami manager Dan Jennings, the Marlins' general manager until taking over in the dugout this month, said the 25-year-old Smith would provide bullpen depth for the organization.
Smith made his big league debut last year for the Detroit Tigers. He pitched two games for the Oakland A's this year and was sent to the Angels in early May.
