A brother of Miami Marlins pitcher Edinson Volquez was killed in the Dominican Republic on Monday.

Brandy Volquez was stabbed to death during a brawl in the city of Santo Domingo Oeste around 3 a.m., according to a report from Quisqueyanos En Los Deportes.

The report says that the suspect who killed Edinson's brother is already in custody, while another is in an area hospital.

Volquez suffered the death of his father in the Dominican Republic just before pitching for the Kansas City Royals in the Game 1 of the 2015 World Series. Volquez didn't know about the dead of his father due to a heart disease until the end of the game.

Volquez agreed in November to a two-year deal worth $22 million with the Marlins after spending two seasons with the Royals.

An All-Star in 2008 when he went 17-6 with a 3.21 ERA for the Cincinnati Reds, Volquez signed with the Royals in 2014 after coming off one of the best seasons of his career with Pittsburgh. He spent 2012 and part of the 2013 season with the Padres, finished that season with the Dodgers and joined Pittsburgh in 2014.
