DENVER -- The San Diego Padresplaced first baseman Eric Hosmer on the family medical leave list.
The team hopes to have him back in the lineup Friday, manager Andy Green said before Tuesday's 8-0 loss to the Colorado Rockies.
"He had some things he needed to go home and take care of," Green said. "Respecting his privacy and his family's wishes. We'll just kind of leave it at that right now."
The Padres also selected the contract of left-hander Eric Lauer from Triple-A El Paso and had him start Tuesday night.
Lauer (0-1), a first-round pick of the Padres in 2016, had a rough outing in his major league debut, allowing seven runs, six earned, over three innings. He also picked up his first big league hit on a bloop single.
To make room for Lauer, San Diego designated lefty Buddy Baumann for assignment.
