Aaron Maund's 87th minute goal was enough to spoil Steven Gerrard's competitive debut for the LA Galaxy in their 1-0 defeat to Real Salt Lake in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal on Tuesday night.

Luke Mulholland's raking cross-field ball found the 24-year-old center back in the LA penalty area and Maund made no mistake with his header, leaving Galaxy keeper Brian Rowe frozen where he stood.

RSL now advance to the Open Cup semifinals, where they will meet the winner of Sporting Kansas City and the Houston Dynamo.
