San Jose's Matheus Silva in critical condition after swimming accident

San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Matheus Silva is in a critical condition after he was involved in a swimming accident in Lake Tahoe, the team announced in a statement on Tuesday.

Silva, 20, is currently on loan with Reno 1868 FC, San Jose's United Soccer League affiliate.

The club said in the statement:

"Matheus Silva had to be pulled out of the water while swimming in Lake Tahoe. After receiving life-saving resuscitation measures at the scene, he was transferred to a nearby hospital in Lake Tahoe and then airlifted to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno."
