San Diego Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso will have an MRI and miss at least one game after injuring his right shoulder during Thursday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Alonso, who is tied for seventh among National League hitters with a team-leading .333 batting average, was injured while diving for a grounder in the eighth inning of the 11-0 loss to Arizona. He stopped the ball, but he had to throw with his glove hand before rolling over and screaming out in pain.

"He landed on his right shoulder, jammed it. It's sore," said manager Bud Black, who confirmed Alonso would not play Friday. "We'll have some doctors look at it tonight. We'll have some images taken tomorrow. We'll know more tomorrow afternoon when we talk."

Alonso left the game and was replaced in the lineup by Will Middlebrooks.

"It's not dislocated, though," assistant general manager Fred Uhlman Jr. told MLB.com. "That's the good thing."

In other injury news, Black said right-handed setup man Joaquin Benoit has fully recovered from right shoulder inflammation. Benoit had not pitched in the past five games and seven of the past eight.
