Girl Scouts going digital to sell you cookies
For the first time in their more than 100-year-old history, the Girl Scouts are going digital!

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- 9-year-old Miranda is a Junior Girl Scout in Fresno. She also happens to be one heck of a salesperson. "I love selling nuts and candies and cookies it's super fun." Now she's taking her entrepreneurship online through the Girl Scout's new "digital cookie" site: "I think it's super cool because you can be able to sell more and it's an easier way to do that. And my goal is 1,000 boxes."

While cookie-craving customers can't order quite yet, when selling season *does* arrive on February 1st, they can place their orders and pay online, and get their cookies shipped directly to them. But it will be invitation only, requiring Girl Scouts to build up client lists so they can e-mail potential customers. That way, the girls can still be involved with the sale as much as possible.

The Girl Scouts rolled out their new digital platform nationally this week, which includes both web and mobile applications. Dacia Poulson -- the product program manager for Girl Scouts of Central California South says the girls will learn vital e-commerce skills: "The world is digital we all use online for business it's a chance for the girl to learn that at an early age. I don't think it will ever take the place of our traditional sale. But I think it will help supplement our sale." Which means you can still get your thin mint fix in person by buying from a booth or ordering in person. But the more traditional ways of selling are time consuming. So Miranda's looking forward to a little help from technology: "If you don't have enough time to go out and booth and all that, sometimes you can get more because of the online."
