FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A rare sight was captured over Texas on Monday. These photos by M. Davis show rare lenticular clouds in the skies over Robertson and Leon Counties in Texas after severe weather moved through the area.

So how do they form? ABC30 AM Live meteorologist Shelby Latino says these clouds are most common over mountains where air is pushed upward and cooled to form a cloud. In this case, though, the cold front left behind a cold pool of air that worked like a mountain, forcing the nearly-saturated air upward and forming these clouds which are shaped by shear (or turning winds) still in the air.

The photos are creating quite a stir on social media. Here is Shelby's original Facebook post.
