PACIFICA, Calif. -- Some people living in a Pacifica apartment complex are fighting the city's order to get out. Inspectors say the cliffside building is in danger of collapsing. City inspectors put yellow tags on all 20 apartments at 310 Esplanade on Monday.

A large cavity is forming in the already unstable cliff in Pacifica. Some tenants of 310 Esplanade spent the night in the residence, despite the threat of criminal prosecution. The Red Cross has set up a shelter at the Pacifica Baptist Church, but some are refusing to go.

At a meeting on Monday, some residents asked the city council for some financial aid to help them move out and on. Council members are already dealing with their own list of damaged properties, having declared a state emergency in an effort to obtain state and federal money to repair its pier and sea wall, which is estimated to cost in the millions.
