Woman found dead in Southwest Fresno canal, according to Fresno Sheriff
FCSO investigate woman's body found in a dry canal near the area of Jensen and Brawley.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Deputies are calling the circumstances of this woman's death questionable, and say it is odd to see something like this in this area.

It was just after 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon when a driver parked their car near a canal on Brawley just north of Jensen.

Sgt. Jon Alvarado of the Fresno County Sheriffs Office said, "The motorist stayed inside the vehicle and looked down into a dry canal and located a female down in the canal that was deceased."

Deputies say the woman looks like she was in her 40's or 50's and also say it's too soon to tell if foul play could be involved. They have not seen any visible signs of trauma on her body yet but the coroner will investigate further.

We also know drowning could not be a factor in her death, the canal she was found in is dry.

In the meantime, homicide detectives will be canvassing the area for evidence and witnesses.

They are also asking if anyone saw anything suspicious in this area or saw a woman walking alone near here to please call the sheriff's office.
