Officers spread out throughout Toledo and pulled people over in a crackdown on guns and gang violence.
In a recent interview with 13abc, the lieutenant who heads up the gang task force said, "We have several gangs that are feuding with each other and the only real problem is the innocent people besides the gang members getting injured."
Or even killed! Police say Racole 'Coco' Hill was an innocent victim shot and killed in the wrong place at the wrong time. It happened last month. Investigators believe gang members are responsible for her death.
This afternoon, officers spent the day looking for weapons on the street. "Several times a year. we partner with the federal agencies-- FBI, ATF-- and also highway state patrol and we'll run gang interdiction gun sweeps. The high presence gives the message out to the gangs the Toledo police department takes a zero tolerance stance to this violence."
Some drivers who were pulled over today were let go.
Officer say many of the gangs have a grip on the neighbohood, causing innocent people to fear for their lives. "They think there's no consequences for shooting someone. It's like it's on TV. These people, after the show's over, they get up and walk out and everything. But these have consequences that last a lifetime."
