Army Specialist Marcos Corona, 27, of Merced died early Saturday morning. Authorities said he lost control of the vehicle he was driving on Highway 65 while on his way to the National Guard Armory in Porterville. He was ejected from the vehicle and later died at a Visalia hospital.
Corona had been battling leukemia for two years. Recently, he was working on organizing a bone marrow drive to support another person in need.
Funeral services will be held next week in Gustine.
