SANGER, Calif. (KFSN) -- Some Valley kids are splashing into summer camp during the recent heat wave.

"It feels really good to get into the pool," said James Hunter, junior lifeguard.

Hunter is one of the dozen of kids participating in the Junior Lifeguard Program at Wild Water Adventure Park. He is staying cool in the water and getting some valuable lessons.

"It's really fun. You get to learn a bunch of stuff about life guarding; you get to follow a bunch of lifeguards around."

The summer camp is for kid's ages 10 to 15-- Tyler McNiff is one of the instructors giving kids a real look at the job duties of a lifeguard.

"They learn all the basics of water safety, even basic rescues whether it be with a tube, without a tube, using any kind of equipment, help distress swimmers, pulling people out of the water, and really helping anyone."

It runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and costs about $300 per session.

Marissa Sylvester, 12, is back for a second year at the camp.

"You learn a lot and you play a lot of fun games to teach you how to be a life guard."

Sylvester's goal is to become a lifeguard and she is working on her skills now in the hopes of landing a job in the future.

"The 15-year-olds will actually get a junior lifeguard certificate and in the following year through top guard training can actually get their lifeguard certification," said McNiff.

Instructors said at the end of camp students can take these skills with them, whether they are at the pool or lake important lifesaving skills at any age.

The next Junior Lifeguard session kicks off July 10th at Wild Waters.
