Ten people were hurt when a rain-soaked tree fell on a group of people touring Vanderbilt University Monday, the school said in a statement.

At least four people were taken by ambulance to the hospital and all were listed in stable condition after the 11:15 a.m. incident, the school said.

"Some members of a Vanderbilt University admissions tour group were injured Monday morning when a tree fell as the group was leaving an information session and waiting outside to begin tours of campus," the statement said.

A portion of a group of 120 prospective students and parents were waiting in a traffic circle near the Old Gym when the tree came down. They had attended a 10 a.m. information session, the school said.

"The roots of the large hackberry tree located on Alumni Lawn were alive, prompting officials to believe the weight of the rain-soaked tree caused it to fall," the statement said.
