People across the country are performing acts of kindness towards their local police officers to show support for law enforcement following last week's deadly shooting in Dallas.

Four police officers in Houston, Texas were surprised to find out that a complete stranger paid for their dinner, last Friday, and nearly the entire restaurant acknowledged them as they left, according to ABC station KTRK-TV in Houston, Texas.

"We got ready to pay, we got ready to leave. They reminded us again that several tables had offered to pay for our meal. When we got up to leave, one guy started clapping. And as we got closer to the door, I looked to my left as I was getting ready to leave [and] I saw most of the restaurant was standing up and giving us a standing ovation as we were walking out," senior police officer Tim Whitaker told KTRK-TV.

As tensions between police and communities remain high, some individuals have decided to show their support for men and women in blue by bringing baked goods into police stations, buying meals for cops and writing thank you cards.

"In the last week or so numerous people from our community have really reached out to show their support to our officers," The Atlanta, Texas Police Department said in a statement on Facebook. They went on to list all the ways that the community has supported their local police department, saying how people had bought them breakfasts, paid for their food, brought in baked goods, and more. "It means more to us than anyone will know," the police department wrote.

Other police stations across the country have also posted on their social media, thanking the community for the support.
