Fresno police: 2 cop impersonators arrested
Fresno police say two would-be bail bondsmen have now turned themselves in to authorities.

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Fresno police say two would-be bail bondsmen have now turned themselves in to authorities. They're accused of stealing from people while impersonating law enforcement officers.

Investigators say Patrick King and Juan Calderon have been driving a rental car and pulling people over for weeks. They're charged with one robbery, and detectives say King confessed to other crimes as well.

Police say the suspects were in training to become bail bondsmen before their crime spree.

"For whatever reason, that didn't pan out, but they did have the equipment -- the badge, the vest, some of those things a bail bondsman would use -- and those were the things that they were wearing when they committed the thefts," said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

Police say both men were on their way to Los Angeles when King's grandmother convinced him to turn himself in, after seeing him identified as a suspect. Calderon surrendered Wednesday afternoon.

Detectives say one victim realized this happened to him after reading about the crimes on the ABC30 Facebook page.
