Two 15-year-olds killed in shooting in Northeast Fresno, police say

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Two 15-year-olds are dead and a 14-year-old is injured after an early morning shooting on Monday in Northeast Fresno.

Fresno police say the deadly shooting happened around 1:30 in the morning near San Jose and 4th, just a block away from an elementary school and Hoover High School.

"They were returning from eating from a couple area restaurants to their friend's house, who lived in the neighborhood, when it appears the shooting occurred," Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto said.

Detectives say the group of four teens was targeted.

"It resulted in the shooting death of two 15-year-old victims being fatally wounded. One 14-year-old was shot, originally in critical condition. It's now reported he's in stable condition," Chief Casto stated.

The fourth teen, a 17-year-old, was not injured.

Chief Casto says the incident appears to be an intentional attack.

"There is gang involvement. Whether it was motivated, I don't know," she said.

Detectives were seen canvassing the area around 11 a.m. on Monday.

"It's very early, so we don't know the motivation or anything else," Chief Casto explained.

No suspect information has been released.

"We believe there was a vehicle involved but I don't have any images yet to put out on that," Chief Casto stated.

These deaths are the 8th and 9th homicides in the city this year.

"Last year at this time, we had 4 murders," Chief Casto said.

The chief says shootings are also ahead with 11 more than this time last year.

She says the department is committed to finding justice for those involved.
