25th Annual Guelaguetza celebrates Oaxacan tradition and culture at Fresno City College

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A celebration of culture entered its 25th year in Central Fresno.

Guelaguetza was held at Fresno City College today showcasing the tradition and culture of the Oaxaca community

There were folkloric dances, live music and traditional food.

The event was put on by the Bi-national Center for the Development of Oaxacan Indigenous Communities.

Its mission is to promote the culture of indigenous communities.

''Oaxaca, where many people come from, just in that state there are 16 different languages. Among the top three are Mixtec, Zapotec and Triqui and all of them are represented in Fresno," said Gaspar Rivera-Salgado.

This celebration started back in 1999 in the city of Fresno with the intention to preserve and spread culture in the state.
