FOWLER, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Fresno County community came together to commemorate the Armenian Genocide.
The City of Fowler gathered at Donny Wright Park this morning to recognize the history of the Armenian population who settled in the area.
A population that was once identified as 65% Armenian in descent and heritage.
"I really hope members of the community walk away with a better understanding of what their fellow neighbors and friends who are Armenian, you know, what happened during the genocide," said Stephanie Mejia, the first lady of Fowler.
The inaugural event featured billboards and interactive exhibits educating attendees about the realities of the Armenian Genocide.
Musical performances provided the soundtrack for the event, highlighting Armenian artists' contributions to the City of Fowler through their art and their talents.
Organizers hope the outpouring of interest and support from the community will continue to grow, making this an annual event.
