Madera County woman arrested for allegedly abusing 3-month-old baby

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A Madera County woman is now in custody, accused of abusing a 3-month-old baby, leaving the infant hospitalized.

50-year-old Tonya Hamilton is now facing child abuse charges after sheriff's deputies were called to assist a medical call.

When they arrived, they found the baby unresponsive with severe head trauma.

The child was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery and the infant's condition remains unknown.

Following a thorough investigation, the non-relative caregiver was arrested and booked into the Madera County Jail.

Hamilton has been released on bond.
