Man drowns while swimming in Merced River

Authorities have identified the man who drowned in the Merced River -- as 28-year-old Mohammad Uzman.

A man died while swimming in the Merced River on Saturday afternoon.

The Merced County Sheriff's Office received calls to the McConnell State Recreation Area about a man who went below the surface of the water and never came back up.
Deputies later found him a little further down the river's shoreline. They performed CPR, but he died at the scene.
