FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- After a weekend homicide, 48-year-old Nicholas Salazar faced a judge accused in the deadly shooting of a 32-year-old Selma woman.
On Wednesday morning, Salazar sat in a courtroom and pleaded not guilty. Action News was not allowed to record his face while he faced the judge.
He is charged with the shooting and killing Saldana on August 15.
"We have never endured so much pain, and we have gone through loss, and we have always been tight knit," said Saldana's sister, Daisy Mulligan.
Family members of Saldana spoke to Action News within days of the attack, explaining how difficult it's been to deal with this tragedy.

Selma Police say Saldana was found suffering from a gunshot wound near Logan and Cypress streets in Selma.
Investigators believe the gunshots stemmed from a fight at a nearby home.
Saldana's family say the details of the gruesome night are hard to process and they miss her dearly.
"This is my baby sister. This is my dad's everything. Mercedes was really a unique person. There's no other Mercedes out there," said Mulligan.
The family hopes Salazar will stay behind bars.
"So, he doesn't harm any other families like it was done to me, so I ask for justice."
The family created a GoFundMe for funeral expenses. Salazar will be back in court on September 29 and this is an ongoing investigation.
