Man shot and killed in Avenal, suspect in custody, police say

AVENAL, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man is dead following a shooting in Avenal, with a suspect already in custody.

Police say the attack happened after 2:30 pm Thursday at a home on Union and Kern.

At the scene, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities were able to quickly identify 27-year-old Nehemias Nunez Barrera as a suspect.

He was arrested around 2:30 am Friday at a home on Kern and 4th.

Barrera was booked into the Kings County Jail on a murder charge and other felony charges.

The victim has not been identified.

No information on what led to the shooting has been released.
