Reports: Padres to call up catching prospect Ethan Salas

The San Diego Padreswill be calling up catching prospect Ethan Salas when rosters expand on Tuesday, according to multiple reports Monday night.

The No. 13 prospect in ESPN's Kiley McDaniels' latest prospect rankings, Salas has been in the Padres organization since he signed as an international free agent when he was 16 years old.

Now 20, Salas would be the youngest player to appear at catcher since Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez (19) in 1991, according to MLB researcher Sarah Langs.

After struggling some in High-A in 2024 and missing much of the 2025 season with injury, Salas got back on track as an elite prospect this season in the minors. He had a .949 OPS in 24 games at Triple-A El Paso with 14 walks to 10 strikeouts.

Salas will join a Padres team currently battling theArizona Diamondbacksfor the final wild card spot in the National League.
