Sources: Lakers to hire Heat exec Eric Amsler as an assistant GM

The Los Angeles Lakers are hiring longtime Miami Heat executive Eric Amsler as an assistant general manager, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday.

Amsler was formerly Miami's vice president of player personnel and general manager for the team's G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka hired two assistant GMs in building out the front office this offseason. Rohan Ramadas, who previously worked for the New Orleans Pelicans, joined L.A. in May to head up the team's salary cap, analytics and strategy department.

Pelinka told reporters the other assistant GM position he was looking to fill would be focused on "player draft and evaluation processes -- that's pro scouting, draft scouting, player development."

Amsler worked for the Heat for two decades, starting as an intern in 2004-05 and working his way up with the basketball operations department through various scouting, personnel and G League roles.

Amsler's addition is the first significant change to the Lakers' brass since Mark Walter, the franchise's majority owner, agreed to see the team to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger at a $12.5 billion valuation in August.
