New evidence presented as two men stand trial for Fresno homicide

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Prosecutors shared video that they say shows 27-year-old Donte Harmon and 30-year-old Maurice Fields running away after a deadly shooting in central Fresno in 2024.

The two accused men entered a Fresno County Courtroom on Monday for their preliminary hearing.

They are accused of shooting and killing 35-year-old Sylvester Choi on September 10.

Prosecutors called several Fresno police officers and detectives to the stand to recount what they saw that night.

"I seen blood coming from the top of his head, it appeared to be a gunshot wound," said Fresno Police Officer Kristopher Castellanos.

The defense and prosecutors helped set up not only a timeline of events, but also the mapping of where the deadly shooting took place.

"You have the street name, North Abby Street, that's shown there," said Prosecutor Kendall Reynolds.

Police witnesses said the shooting happened near Abby Street and Garland Avenue in central Fresno.

At the time of Harmon and Fields' arrest, Fresno Police Lt. Paul Cervantes said 35 shots were fired in this single incident.

"Given the number of rounds fired, it's only by the grace of God that we don't have more victims that were struck by gunfire and/or actually dead," said Lt. Cervantes.

Authorities said two other people were injured in the shooting but survived.

Harmon and Fields are expected in court on Tuesday.

It's also important to note that Harmon and Fields are also accused of shooting and killing another man a month after Choi. The two also deny being part of that attack.
