Suspicious item found in Southeast Fresno home turns out to be toy grenade

SOUTHEAST FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A toy grenade found in a box at a Southeast Fresno home caused a temporary evacuation, Fresno Police say.

Officers were called a little after 1:30 p.m. Friday to the area of Belgravia and Sierra Vista avenues on a report of a suspicious item in a box.

When officers arrived, they found a grenade inside the box.

Some neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution.

An ABC30 insider shared with Action News that they were working on street asphalt restoration when the homeowner found the item as he was clearing boxes.

Officials later identified the grenade as a toy.

There is no threat to the public.
