Virginia TV reporter, cameraman shot and killed during live interview

A cameraman and reporter are dead after a gunman opened fire during a live report.

Franklin County Sheriff confirmed to ABC News that an active shooter was reported in Moneta at 6:45 a.m. EST. Local TV station WDBJ confirmed that the photographer and reporter were killed. Their names are Alison Parker and Adam Ward.

The gunman is not in custody, according to police. Schools in the area were placed on lockdown in response to the situation.

The shooting occurred at Bridgewater Plaza, a recreational facility with shops, restaurants, a mini golf course and boat rentals, ABC News reports.
