Police said they believe there were at least three shooters: a 15-year-old, an acquaintance who died at the scene and "at least one other unknown suspect."
Austin Metcalf, an 11th grader at Frisco Memorial High School, died Wednesday after police said another student stabbed him during an altercation at a track meet.
Four of the boys were tired, cold and "basically gave up," police said. They decided to knock on the door of a home selected at random.
Thirty of 65 people arrested at the "unpermitted" event are juveniles, police said.
The teen was sentenced to a short-term program of up to six months in juvenile hall, counseling, and 100 hours of volunteer work.
"Our families have been devastated twice," the father of one of the fallen Porterville firefighters said after a judge dismissed murder charges against both the teens.
