Fresno Police Identified Suspect Killed in Shooting

Fresno, CA Officers say 33-year old /*Roberto Padilla*/ used a gun to threaten a store clerk in the hold up of the /*Kings Food Market*/ in Southwest Fresno over the weekend.

He was shot by five officers in an alley after ... they say ... the suspect raised a gun at them.

Investigators say Padilla was a serial robber who targeted ten-stores in the past six weeks.

A special "Street Violence Team" had been tracking him for days. Police Chief Jerry Dyer says officers had no choice -- but to shoot Padilla.

"In the world of officer involved shootings, this officer involved shooting based on the circumstances as we know them today clearly shows the officers acted appropriately when they used deadly force against this individual," said Chief Dyer.

The autopsy is still being conducted, but investigators say the suspect died from multiple gunshot wounds. Police say a total of sixteen-shots were fired.
