FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- After three years of construction a major renovation project at Bullard High School is almost complete.

Tuesday morning staff and administration were preparing for the new school year, while construction crews were working on finishing touches of several new buildings

"Not only did we renovate the library next door but we also expanded to have more areas for students to have a better Career Center, counseling area and registration area," said Bullard High School Principal Carlos Castillo.

Principal Castillo said the Northwest Fresno campus will also have 40 new classrooms with state-of-the-art technology. More than two dozen portable classrooms were removed and Castillo said those buildings were spread too far apart.

"It made it difficult for students to get from one end of the campus to the other, if they had theatre one period and then they had math the next period with only six minutes of passing time. That made it quite challenging."

Construction on the $35-million project was made possible by Fresno Unified's Measure Q, a bond passed by voters in 2010.

Castillo said most of the construction will be done when students return to campus on Monday. While crews work on the final phase of the project, student parking will be limited.

"Because we're working on a southwest parking lot that will be completed in early November, so that's the big struggle we are going to have from now until November."

Castillo encourages students driving or being dropped to arrive early for the first day of school and to use the brand new entrance on Palm Avenue.

Castillo thanks for every for being patience through this long process.

"Our student have been great, our staff has been great. They have had a great attitude overall about the whole thing. So it is a well-deserved facility for them and for the kids."
