FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A man was shot to death while fighting off robbery suspects in southeast Fresno Saturday, police said.

The shooting happened at the Stereo and DJ Outlet near Kings Canyon and Recreation Avenues just before 8 p.m. Police say three suspects entered and attempted to rob the store.

Family members of the store owner heard the commotion and ran to fight the suspects off. During the fight, police say one suspect brandished a gun and shot the victim, the son of the owner, outside the store.

"They chase them outside, they get into a physical fight outside of the store and that's when one of them uses and handgun and shoots one of the victims," Lt. Jerardo Chamalbide with the Fresno Police Department said.

He was transported to a hospital where he later died.

Police have not released any suspect information yet but say they fled in a gold-colored Honda or Saturn sedan.

The area has been closed off while police investigate the scene and interview witnesses.
