FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Investigators are trying to determine if a local man is the victim of a hatchet attack or if the person who hit him did so in self-defense.

The incident happened Friday afternoon near Peach and Olive Avenues.

When police arrived they found a 20-year-old man suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to the hospital where he is now in critical condition. Police say they determined the incident happened after an earlier fight between the injured person and a 60-year-old man.

The injured man reportedly then showed up to the older man's house with a stick. Police say that's when the older man armed himself with the hatchet.

They say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this case.

The older man has been arrested, and investigators are trying to determine if he'll face any charges.
