Keeping communities safe was the main topic of discussion Thursday night in Clovis.

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Keeping communities safe was the main topic of discussion Thursday night in Clovis.

The Clovis Police Chief and Fresno County Sheriff were in attendance Thursday night at the Clovis Veterans Memorial District Auditorium giving information to and fielding questions from members of the community.

Some of the issues being discussed included personal safety, conceal and carry permits, community watch, and some of the newer social media and app's to keep people informed of crime where they live. "People can go online and register at Nextdoor.com, enter their address, and they will get alerts of what's happening in their community. They define an area so that if a crime is committed, and a report is taken, they get an alert," said Margaret Mims, Fresno County Sheriff.

Sheriff Mims believes having close contact with people in different areas of the county is the best way to let people know how to remain safe.
