Kids learn about swimming safety in Downtown Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Chukchansi Park hosted a very important event ahead of the summer season.

About 1,200 kids took part in this year's May Day Safety Fair, organized by Valley Children's Hospital.

Children received safety tips around the water and other potential hazards.

"It's in all different avenues of life," Mary Jo Quintero with the hospital said. "How can they be safe in the summertime and all year long."

Dozens of groups set up displays throughout the ballpark to offer different tips to children.

The Fresno police and fire departments were also part of the day's event, along with Swim America who held a demonstration at the Chukchansi Park Pool.
