With several credible tips received Clovis Police Chief Matt Basgall belives double homicide suspect Dave McCann is in the Cambria area.

CAMBRIA, Calif. (KFSN) -- With several credible tips received within the last 24 hours, Clovis Police Chief Matt Basgall believes double homicide suspect Dave McCann is in the Cambria area.

"We're going to do our best, and working diligently to search different outlying areas to see if he's possibly staying up in the woods somewhere or on the beach."

They will not be searching any residential areas. The chief said McCann is likely in a rural area with rough terrain, trying to hide.

And he added that McCann may be looking a little rough himself. Describing his appearance as dirty, and wearing dark clothes.

"Our worst fear is somebody picking this guy up thinking, 'oh, it's some poor guy on the side of the road.' We're encouraging everybody, do not pick up a hitchhiker-- especially in that area," said Basgall.

Clovis police have been tracking McCann since Saturday. He's suspected of killing his estranged wife, Tierney Cooper-McCann, and her mother, Judith Cooper. They were found stabbed to death in a Clovis home.

From Clovis, police said McCann drove a rental truck to Paso Robles where he ditched it. He may have hopped on a bike after that, but the most recent reports out of Cambria have him traveling on foot.

Chief Basgall said the reports out of Cambria have been consistent. The most recent witness reported seeing McCann on Sunday afternoon.

"With the help of the public, and the help of the media, and our officers, we're going to do everything we can to find this person. It's definitely not something we're going to give up on."

McCann has a medium build, is tall, and has a strong British accent.

Authorities said if you see him call the police and do not approach him.
