Grass fire burns 15 acres near Kingsburg

Crews in the South Valley are cleaning up after a grass fire erupted along a riverbank.

The flames broke out near the Kings River Golf and Country Club on Sunday night and spread to at least 15 acres.

Firefighters say several homes were under fire protection to make sure the flames didn't get to them. Residents in the area said at one point the fire was so out of control and they took efforts into their own hands -- using garden hoses until the fire department arrived.

Grass fire near Kingsburg threatens homes

Authorities say a small outside building was destroyed and no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
