Valley Center for the Blind opens new Fresno location

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Valley Center for the Blind celebrated the grand opening of its new location Friday.

The center offers everything needed to remain independent while dealing with loss of vision.

At the ribbon cutting, the center had several of its services available for testing. That included guide dogs and their trainers and new technology to help the blind and visually impaired.

Administrators say they held the grand opening to make sure the community is aware of the services they offer.

"In year's past, if you were blind you went into a facility if you didn't have family," Ken Warkentin with the center explained. "You know how to live independently and safely, how to travel, and how to use the FAX system."

The center offers services on everything from learning how to cook to counseling.

It also extends its reach to the surrounding Madera, Tulare and Kings counties.
