Faith community rallies around Eady family after fatal plane crash

CLOVIS, Calif. (KFSN) -- Friends, family members and fellow church members are coming together to support the Eady family following a plane crash that killed Danna Eady, her husband Craig Eady and two young children.

According to authorities, the family departed from Sierra Sky Park Airport in northwest Fresno on Saturday. Moments later, their plane crashed on the bluff of the San Joaquin River.

The loss has deeply affected those who knew the family and members of their faith community.

Kristin Leonard, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said many are finding comfort in their beliefs as they mourn.

"We believe in eternal families and that the bonds of family do not end when this life ends. We take great comfort in that. We also know we can take comfort and solace in our savior Jesus Christ," Leonard said.

Leonard said prayers from community members have provided support during the grieving process.

"The community is supporting in prayer and that is a huge source of support," she said.

The Eady family was part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Auberry. Church members said the family was actively involved in the congregation, and their absence is being felt throughout the community.

"We're heartbroken. Truly heartbroken. It was such a shock to everyone," Leonard said.

The loss has also extended beyond the church community.

Daniel Armenta, a flight science student at Reedley College, remembered Danna Eady as an instructor who inspired her students.

"She was an amazing instructor. She taught us well. She taught us how to keep on going," Armenta said.

Loved ones have organized a fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses. So far, they have raised more than $60,000.

In addition to financial support, community members have stepped in to help the family in other ways.

"There have been many meals arranged. They're trying to be well taken care of," Leonard said.

As the community continues to grieve, Leonard said many are leaning on one another for support.

"We all struggle with grief and loss. This is a heartbreaking loss," she said.
