Woman dies after crashing pickup into Merced County canal

MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 41-year-old woman has died after the pickup truck she was driving crashed into an empty irrigation canal in Merced County Monday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the woman was traveling on Meadow Drive near West Lane when her Ford Ranger drifted off to the right.

Officers say it appears she overcorrected, and the truck drifted across both lanes before flipping into the canal. The woman was ejected from the vehicle.

Investigators say she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Medics arrived and performed CPR on the victim, but she died at the scene.

It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
